Ansada Fone: When the Phone Rings

Synopsis

The entire book is comprised of comic strips that essentially depict the many interactions the character of Ansada Fone has with its home telephone. There are also several other characters featured in the comic strip. The misfortune always seems to happen with Ansada Fone who especially jumps and falls over whenever his phone starts ringing. Even if he does not, you could expect some kind of misfortune befalling him. The premises are funny too but it might not be seen as funny by everyone as perspectives differ. The missing puzzle is the references put in with the punchline of the comic, which often refer to some piece of pop culture from the 70s and 80s. Zain Habib is certainly a creative guy with many of these references applied in the form of ‘puns’ whilst the main character undergoes the said misfortune.

Habib is clearly influenced by a lot of prominent pop culture he experienced during his childhood and teenage years. The references pull off some really prominent parts of the media that influenced him, such as music, television, and film. However, the references are simply appealing due to their more or less direct approach. Therefore, this book is certainly an excellent starting point for people who want to immerse themselves in the world of Ansada Fone. In fact, Habib himself claimed that this book was all about the groundwork, and see if people found the presentation and the entire comic book truly entertaining and humorous.

Highlights

Zain Habib introduced his outlandish and offbeat sense of humor to the world with the character known as Ansada Fone. First published in 2007, it came with the wave of nostalgia when many adults wanted evocation of the 70s and 80s, a time of fun and great innocence. After the book came out, it acquired a great deal of attention from a large number of people through its artwork, the great humor, as well as simplicity. The book was essentially self-published by Habib who worked as a banker during the daytime and pursued his artistic and creative tendencies after a long day at work. The entire book concerns itself with the character, Ansada Fone, and his wired telephone, the latter of which is the source of great misfortune for the former and his friends.

Reviews

I bought this book just by getting attracted by the title and the cover page. It seemed so different, and I’m glad I did because reading it is certainly one of my favorite pastimes.

Ansada Fone is certainly a piece of comic art that not only just needs more attention, but is required to be celebrated as an important part of the culture- just like its references.

I found the jokes to be really funny and layered, and I have done it multiple times ever since I actually bought it. The best part all the artworks and jokes still fell incredibly fresh and great.
